Arts & Sciences Challenge
Let it be known by all that an A&S challenge will be held preceding the feast!
The only requirement for your entry is that the subject be something from medieval Rus, in any of its incarnations during the time period.
Anything at all, be it woodworking, embroidery, garb, scrolls, food, brewery, metalwork, jewelry, poetry, music, etc. will be accepted, as long as you can document it to medieval Rus.
So if you will be attending the feast, please consider entering the challenge.
Anyone who hass ever tried any art or craft, is hereby encouraged to consider researching its incarnations in Russia, and trying to make a Russian version of what you already do!
Or try something completely new from Russian sources!
If you wish to enter a performance piece in the challenge, like poetry, an epic, or a piece of music, you are cordially invited to perform it during the feast!
Please contact the autocrat if you would like to do that, and a time will be scheduled for you to perform your entry.
There will be table space set up for entries, but if you'll need very a large space or something other than a table for display (for example, space to set up a suit of armor or a mannequin doll or a chair), please contact the autocrat in advance.
So please do try your hand at something Eastern and exotic and consider entering the challenge!
Documentation Assistance
If you have trouble getting resources in English, or getting them translated, there are a few volunteer translators familiar with a variety of Eastern Slavic languages, who have offered to help translate resources into English for the challenge.
Contact the autocrat if you need translation help, and don't let the language barrier stop you from entering!
In addition, if you can only provide parts of your documentation in Russian, there will be judges on hand who will be able to read it.
If you would like to enter, but have no idea where to even start looking for Russian sources, feel free to contact the autocrat with questions.
You can also try the Slavic Interest Group (SIG) yahoogroup (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sig/) - there are plenty of very knowledgeable people on there who can answer all sorts of questions.
Arts & Sciences Display
If you have something Russian that you have made, but just don't want to enter it in a competition, please consider bringing and displaying it (this is especially good with large things like armor, garb, scrolls, etc.) There will be a display area set up, but please let us know if you're planning to bring something, so there?s enough space prepared for you.
If you have any questions about the challenge or the display, or would like more information, please contact the autocrat.
